It all
started with Harry Potter! I thought Wouldn't it be neat if
kids could earn points for their houses like they do at Hogwarts?
Then I went on a Carnival Cruise, where we were promptly put on
a team and earned points for participating in the ship activities.
HMMMMM . . .
That's
when inspiration hit, and I created the four teams for our class!
Since Room 5 is known as "The Hive" because of my bee theme, we have
the Bumblebees, the Hornets, the Yellow Jackets, and the Honeybees.
Students in our class are randomly sorted by reaching into the
"sorting hat", and drawing a slip of paper with their team name on
it. Teams remain the same all year long. Teammates will
not necessarily be seated together. They will be spread
throughout the classroom.
Teams
earn points for turning in homework, getting A's on tests,
committing acts of kindness, and so forth. We will tally up
the points at the end of the week, and the team with the most points
will get to pick from our treasure chest!
Each
week, teams begin again with no points. But, we will also keep
a running total for the month, the marking period, and the year!
So, while one team may win for the week, at the end of the month,
another team may have the most accumulated points, providing another
opportunity for rewards. In short, rewards will be given to
the team with the most points each week, each month, each marking
period, and at the end of the year.
